This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out what you may and may not do with Crawlhub's proxies, Web Scraping API, SERP API and any other Crawlhub services (the "Services"). It forms part of the Crawlhub General Conditions and applies to every customer and every person who uses the Services through a customer's account.
Web data collection is legitimate when it is done lawfully and responsibly. Whether a use is allowed depends on what you collect, how you collect it and what you do with it. You are responsible for making sure your use complies with this AUP and with all laws that apply to you, your targets and your data.
A breach of this AUP is a breach of the General Conditions.
1. Prohibited uses
You may not use the Services, or allow anyone else to use them, to:
- Break the law. Engage in, promote or facilitate any illegal activity, or access, store or distribute content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, obscene, threatening, harassing or hateful.
- Commit fraud. Carry out fraud, phishing, identity theft, impersonation, money laundering, payment or card fraud, or any deceptive scheme.
- Take over accounts. Perform credential stuffing, brute-force logins, password spraying, account creation at scale for abuse, or access accounts you are not authorized to use.
- Attack systems. Launch denial-of-service attacks, vulnerability or port scanning without authorization, packet spoofing, or any attempt to break into or disrupt a network, host or account, including Crawlhub's.
- Spread malware. Distribute or control viruses, ransomware, trojans, botnets or other malicious code.
- Send spam. Send unsolicited bulk messages, or sell or promote tools built for spam.
- Commit ad fraud. Generate fake clicks, impressions, installs, views, likes, followers or other invalid traffic or engagement.
- Harm people. Stalk, track, profile or surveil individuals, or collect data to harass, discriminate against or endanger anyone.
- Evade sanctions or bans. Access services or content from a sanctioned country, or evade geo-restrictions, bans or blocks imposed on you by law enforcement, regulators or courts.
- Exploit children. Access, create or distribute any content that sexually exploits or endangers minors. We report such activity to the authorities.
2. Data collection rules
2.1. Public data only. Collect only publicly available data, unless the website owner has given you permission to access more.
2.2. No logins without permission. Do not use the Services to access content behind a login, paywall or other access control unless you are authorized to access it, and never with credentials that are not yours.
2.3. Personal data. If you collect personal data, you must have a lawful basis under the GDPR and other privacy laws, collect only what you need, and handle it securely. The Data Processing Agreement applies.
2.4. No sensitive data. Do not collect special categories of personal data (such as health, biometric, religious, political or sexual orientation data), data about criminal convictions, or data about children, unless you have a specific lawful basis and have told us in writing first.
2.5. Respect intellectual property. Do not use collected content in a way that infringes copyright, database rights, trademarks or other rights, for example by republishing it wholesale.
2.6. Don't overload websites. Collect at a reasonable rate that does not disrupt or degrade the target website's operation.
2.7. Website terms. You are responsible for reviewing and complying with the terms of service and other legal restrictions of the websites you collect from, as they apply to you.
2.8. Restricted targets. Using the Services to access the following requires our prior written approval, which we may refuse or withdraw: government and military websites; banking, payment and financial account portals; healthcare and patient portals.
3. Account and service rules
3.1. Truthful information. Give accurate information when you sign up and keep it up to date. Do not use false identities, stolen payment methods or chargebacks to obtain the Services.
3.2. Verification. We may ask you to verify your identity, your company and your intended use case (know-your-customer checks) before or after giving you access, and may limit or refuse access until verification is complete.
3.3. No sharing or reselling. Do not share your credentials or API keys, or resell, sublicense or provide the Services to third parties, unless your Order expressly allows it. If reselling is allowed, you must make sure your own customers comply with this AUP, and you are responsible for their use.
3.4. No circumvention. Do not bypass usage limits, rate limits, billing or monitoring, create multiple accounts to abuse free trials or promotions, or tamper with usage records.
3.5. No interference. Do not reverse engineer, overload or disrupt the Services or the networks and devices they rely on.
4. Enforcement
4.1. Monitoring. We may monitor use of the Services, including target domains and traffic patterns, to detect and prevent breaches of this AUP. We may block specific targets, request types or traffic at any time.
4.2. Investigation. If we suspect a breach, we may ask you to explain your use case and provide information. You must cooperate promptly.
4.3. Suspension and termination. If we believe you have breached this AUP, we may, at our discretion and without liability, warn you, restrict or suspend your access, or terminate your account immediately, with notice by email. Where reasonable we will give you a chance to fix the issue first, but we may act immediately for serious breaches or where required by law. Fees already paid and unused Credit are not refunded.
4.4. Cooperation with authorities. We may share information about you and your use of the Services with law enforcement, regulators, courts or affected third parties where required by law or needed to prevent harm.
4.5. Responsibility. You are responsible for all use of the Services under your account and will indemnify Crawlhub for claims arising from breaches of this AUP, as set out in the General Conditions.
5. Reporting abuse
5.1. If you believe someone is using Crawlhub's Services for abusive or illegal activity, report it to hello@crawlhub.ai with as much detail as possible (IP addresses, timestamps, target URLs). We review every report.
6. Changes
6.1. We may update this AUP. Material changes take effect 14 days after we publish them and notify you by email. Continued use of the Services after that means you accept the updated AUP.
